Ingredients

½ cup butter, room temperature
¼ teaspoon salt

1 cup granulated sugar

1 egg, unbeaten

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 squares semisweet chocolate, melted

1 cup all-purpose flour, stir before measuring

½ cup finely chopped hazelnuts (other chopped nuts may be substituted)

Preparation

Preheat oven to 325°F.

Cream butter until light and fluffy. Gradually beat in salt and sugar. Add egg; beat well. Blend vanilla and chocolate. Mix in flour then chopped hazelnuts, mixing until well-blended.

Drop level tablespoonfuls of dough, 2 inches apart, onto greased cookie sheets. Stamp lightly with a flat bottom glass covered with a damp cloth. If desired, sprinkle more finely chopped hazelnuts over the top of each cookie. Bake for about 15 minutes, until done.

This Christmas Cookie Recipe makes about 2-3 dozen chocolate hazelnut bites.

Candy Cane Cookies

Ingredients

2½ cups (325 grams) all-purpose flour

¼ teaspoon salt

1 cup (227 grams) unsalted butter, room temperature

1 cup (120 grams) confectioners sugar

2 large egg yolk

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

½ teaspoon pure almond extract

½ teaspoon red liquid food coloring

Preparation

In a bowl, whisk flour with salt.

In another bowl, beat butter and sugar until creamy. Add egg yolk, vanilla and almond extracts. Beat until combined. Scrape down sides of the bowl as needed. Add flour mixture, in three additions; beat until you have a smooth dough.

Remove half the dough from mixing bowl. To remaining half, add red food coloring and beat on low speed until well-blended. If you find the dough too soft, cover and refrigerate for 30-60 minutes.

Take a walnut-sized piece of red dough and a walnut-sized piece of white dough. Separately, roll each color on a lightly floured surface, into a 4-5 inch long rope.

Place the two ropes side by side, gently press together, and twist the two ropes to form a spiral. Place cookies on a parchment-lined baking sheet, spacing cookies about 2 inches apart. Shape each cookie into a cane shape by bending one end into a hook shape.

Preheat oven to 325°F and place rack in center of oven.

Bake cookies for about 8-10 minutes or until set and the edges of the cookies are just starting to brown. Remove from oven and let cookies cool completely on baking sheet. Cover and store in an airtight container for about a week.

This Christmas Cookie Recipe makes about 30 canes.

Make a batch of these Christmas Cookie Recipes as yummy Yuletide greetings to friends! More Christmas Cookie Recipes coming up.

Christmas is the most magical day of the year. The whole family gathers around the Christmas tree, exchanges presents, listens Christmas songs. Every person on the planet can say something unique about this special day.

One of my personal favorite quotes about Christmas is “Peace on earth will come to stay, When we live Christmas every day.” by Helen Steiner. This tells us that Christmas is an unique day like no other else.

On this day all the people are in harmony, all the fights between them stop and the spirit of Christmas is reborn in everyone. Helen Steiner was a religious writer, so she believed deeply in Christianity and the Christmas was the most important day to her.

But Christmas was not just a religious celebration to her- it is a day filled with hopes for better tomorrow for all the people on the planet surrounded with love and happiness.

Maybe the best quote that describes the spirit of Christmas is “Christmas gift suggestions: To your enemy, forgiveness. To an opponent, tolerance. To a friend, your heart. To a customer, service. To all, charity. To every child, a good example. To yourself, respect.” by Oren Arnold.

This is another proof that Christmas is not just an ordinary day. Everyone exchange big, beautiful gift on Christmas. But the best present you can give to a person is forgiveness, respect and love. Every person fells something different in his heart on this magical day.

Another Charismas “miracle” is how it joins and gathers the people. How the love is greater than everything at Christmas time. Like Christina Georgina Rossetti had said “Love came down at Christmas; love all lovely, love divine; love was born at Christmas, stars and angels gave the sign.”

These examples easily show how important Christmas is for everyone. How they feel and express these feeling in quotes that remain in time.

What does Christmas mean to you?

It became one of history’s most famous Christmas quotes:

“Yes, VIRGINIA, there is a Santa Claus.”

In 1897, Dr. Philip O’Hanlon, asked by his then eight-year-old daughter, Virginia, whether Santa Claus really existed.

Then O’Hanlon suggested she write to the New York Sun, a major New York newspaper at that time to ensure that “If you can see in The Sun, it’s so.”

On 21 September 1897, the New York Sun ran an editorial, titled “Is There a Santa Claus?” It was inspired by the letter to the editor written by Laura Virginia O’Hanlon, who wanted to know if the jolly, chubby man in the red suit really existed.

It was The Sun editor Francis Pharcellus Church, in whose younger days as a correspondent in the American Civil War sapped him of hope and faith in society at large. Despite the dispiritedness, he would manage to run a fitting reply in the paper that would become one of the world’s most famous Christmas quotes.

And Church’s message to Little Miss O’Hanlon was the declarative that would fill the hearts of people the world over.

It became one of history’s most famous Christmas quotes:

Yes, VIRGINIA, there is a Santa Claus.

Veteran journalist Francis Pharcellus Church has become the history’s most reprinted newspaper editorial appearing in part or whole in dozens of languages, books, movies, publishing and on posters and stamps.

Here is full text of the famous editorial:

“Is there a Santa Claus?”

“DEAR EDITOR: I am 8 years old. “Some of my little friends say there is no Santa Claus.”Papa says, ‘If you see it in THE SUN it’s so.’”Please tell me the truth; is there a Santa Claus?”

“VIRGINIA O’HANLON.

“115 WEST NINETY-FIFTH STREET.”

“VIRGINIA, your little friends are wrong. They have been affected by the skepticism of a skeptical age. They do not believe except [what] they see. They think that nothing can be which is not comprehensible by their little minds.

All minds, Virginia, whether they be men’s or children’s, are little. In this great universe of ours man is a mere insect, an ant, in his intellect, as compared with the boundless world about him, as measured by the intelligence capable of grasping the whole of truth and knowledge.

Yes, VIRGINIA, there is a Santa Claus. He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy. Alas! how dreary would be the world if there were no Santa Claus.

It would be as dreary as if there were no VIRGINIAS. There would be no childlike faith then, no poetry, no romance to make tolerable this existence. We should have no enjoyment, except in sense and sight. The eternal light with which childhood fills the world would be extinguished.

Not believe in Santa Claus! You might as well not believe in fairies! You might get your papa to hire men to watch in all the chimneys on Christmas Eve to catch Santa Claus, but even if they did not see Santa Claus coming down, what would that prove?

Nobody sees Santa Claus, but that is no sign that there is no Santa Claus. The most real things in the world are those that neither children nor men can see. Did you ever see fairies dancing on the lawn? Of course not, but that’s no proof that they are not there. Nobody can conceive or imagine all the wonders there are unseen and unseeable in the world.

You may tear apart the baby’s rattle and see what makes the noise inside, but there is a veil covering the unseen world which not the strongest man, nor even the united strength of all the strongest men that ever lived, could tear apart.

Only faith, fancy, poetry, love, romance, can push aside that curtain and view and picture the supernal beauty and glory beyond. Is it all real? Ah, VIRGINIA, in all this world there is nothing else real and abiding.

No Santa Claus! Thank God! he lives, and he lives forever. A thousand years from now, Virginia, nay, ten times ten thousand years from now, he will continue to make glad the heart of childhood.”

Isn’t it fantastic Christmas story?

I have compiled what I think as best Christmas quotes ever written by who simply wanted to keep the spirit of the Season alive and bring every once good cheer and a good laugh.

Ten Famous Christmas Quotes by authors unknown:

Christmas Quotes Number 10 has the materialistic meaning of the Season:

Three phrases that sum up Christmas are: Peace on Earth, Goodwill to Men, and Batteries not Included.

Christmas Quotes Number 9 is even more commercialized:

Christmas is the season when you buy this year’s gifts with next year’s money.

Christmas Quotes Number 8 reflects our attitude to Quote Number Nine:

Once again, we come to the Holiday Season, a deeply religious time that each of us observes, in his own way, by going to the mall of his choice.

Christmas Quotes Number 7 is attributed to a child who thinks better of the Season than anyone in the household: Love is what’s in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen.

Christmas Quotes Number 6 is profound:

“Christmas is a time to open our hearts to God and his gifts. Just like the rest of the year.”

Christmas Quotes Number 5 is more profound:

“The message of Christmas is that the visible material world is bound to the invisible spiritual world.”

Christmas Quotes Number 4 is simple but meaningful:

“Perhaps the best Yuletide decoration is being wreathed in smiles.”

Christmas Quotes Number 3 comes in a sweet rhyme:

Wouldn’t life be worth the living

      Wouldn’t dreams be coming true

If we kept the Christmas spirit

      All the whole year through?

Here are more of ‘em famous Christmas quotes, plainly said or otherwise: From character Jack Skellington in Disney’s The Nightmare Before Christmas: “This year, Christmas will be OURS!”

From A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens:

“It’s Christmas Day!” said Scrooge to himself “I haven’t missed it. The Spirits have done it all in one night They can do anything they like. Of course they can. Of course they can.”

I also have here famous Christmas quotes immortalized in song.

From Irvin Berlin (who inspired more than four dozen other artists from Frank Sinatra to Barbra Streisand to Boy George to Andrea Bocelli to Michael Bublé to render their own moving versions):

Great men and women from the Land of Milk and Honey have put in words what we want to express as sweetly and sincerely in action.

Here’s our Top-Five List of inspirational Christmas quotes by America’s greatest thinkers to stimulate thoughts and emotions in this very meaningful season:

Inspirational Christmas Quotes #5

It is from John Calvin Coolidge Jr, 30th President of the United States whose biographer once described him as having embodied the spirit and hopes on the middle class, and as having interpreted their longings and express their opinions.

That he did represent the genius of the average is the most convincing proof of his strength…

”Christmas is not a time nor a season, but a state of mind.

To cherish peace and goodwill, to be plenteous in mercy,

And the more you spend in blessing,

Roll on the floor this Yuletide with my funny Christmas card sayings. It’s the Season to be merry and jolly after all.

The first two in my list of funny Christmas quotes needs parental guidance. But relax, they’re nothing indecent:

Funny Christmas Quotes #1

It comes from John William “Johnny” Carson, who had hosted the eponymousThe Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson for three decades, and who is dubbed one of the Twentieth Century’s most influential comedians.

“The price of Christmas toys is outrageous a hundred dollars, two hundred dollars for video games for the youngsters. I remember a Christmas years ago when my son was a kid. I bought him a tank. It was about a hundred dollars, a lot of money in those days. It was the kind of tank you could actually get inside and ride in. He played in the box it came in. It taught me a very valuable lesson. Next year, he got the box. And I got a hundred dollars’ worth of scotch!”

Funny Christmas Quotes #2

It comes from James Douglas Muis “Jay” Leno, host of the eponymous The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

“The Supreme Court has ruled that they cannot have a nativity scene in Washington, DC. This wasn’t for any religious reasons. They couldn’t find three wise men and a virgin.”

Funny Christmas Quotes #3

It comes from Bernard Manning, an English comedian whose jokes were criticized for piquing ethnic and minority groups. He would always deny his personal racial bias by saying, “You never take a joke seriously.”

I once bought my kids a set of batteries for Christmas with a note on it saying,’Toys not included.

Funny Christmas Quotes #4

It comes from Shirley Jane Temple, or simply Shirley Temple, child actress of the 1930s. At the age of six, she skyrocketed to superstardom and received a special Academy Award in 1935.

“I stopped believing in Santa Claus when I was six.Mother took me to see him in a department store And he asked for my autograph.”

Funny Christmas Quotes #5

That was cracked by an anonymous author.

“Why is Christmas just like a day at the office? You do all the work and the fat guy with the suit gets all the credit.”

Now, how true is that? But let’s not be bitter at Santa Claus for he’s the holiday’s icon that lights up our gloomy faces with his cheeky grin and Ho-Ho voice. Share the funny Christmas quotes you encounter and help bring everyone some good cheer!

Ho Ho Ho! Ha Ha Ha! Just keep rolling on the floor this Chritmas time with funny Christmas jokes ‘Tis the Season to cheer and be merry after all.

I have three funny Christmas jokes to share with friends who wants to laugh out loud at this time of year:

Funny Christmas Jokes #1

It honors Rudolph, inarguably Santa’s most popular reindeer.

A Russian couple were strolling down the street in Moscow, when the husband felt a drop hit his nose. ‘I think it’s starting to rain,’ he said to his wife.

‘I don’t think so, it felt more like snow to me,’ she replied.

‘No, I’m sure it was just rain,’ he said. Well, as these things go, they were about to have a major argument about whether it was raining or snowing. Just then they saw a minor Communist party official walking towards them. ‘Let’s not fight about it,’ the man said, ‘Let’s ask Comrade Rudolph whether it’s officially raining or snowing.’

As the official approached, the husband stopped him and asked, ‘Tell us, Comrade Rudolph, is it officially raining or snowing?’

‘It’s raining, of course,’ he answered and walked on.

But the woman insisted: ‘I know that felt like snow!’ To which the man replied:’Rudolph the Red knows rain, dear!’

Ha Ha! That joke is awesome, isn’t it?

Funny Christmas Jokes #2

It talks about what a boy wants for Christmas.

Darren accompanies his father out shopping in the toy department of Hamleys on Christmas Eve. Dad said, ‘What a marvellous train set. I’ll buy it.’ The salesgirl look pleased. ‘Great, I’m sure your son will really love it. ”Maybe you’re right,’ Dad replied with a glint of gladness in his eye, ‘In that case, I’ll take two!’

Hah! It’s the most weird funny Christmas joke I ever heard… Can Dad get a little more selfish than that?

Funny Christmas Jokes #3

Now let’s talk about what a girl wants for Christmas.

The Santa Claus at the shopping mall was very surprised when Emily, a young lady aged twentysomething walked up and sat on his lap.

Now we all know that Santa doesn’t usually take requests from adults, but she smiled very nicely at him.

So he asked her, ‘What do you want for Christmas?’

‘Something for my mother, please,’ replied Emily sweetly.

‘Something for your mother? Well, that’s very thoughtful of you,’ smiled

Santa. ‘What would you like me to bring her?’

Without turning a hair, Emily answered quickly: ‘A son-in-law.’

That’s all for now, have fun this season. Poke your funny Christmas jokes!

Christmas movie quotes 1

It comes from the 1947 classic, Miracle on 34th Street, a story on New Yorkers wondering if the department-store Santa might be the real thing:

If you’re really Santa Claus, you can get it for me. And if you can’t, you’re only a nice man with a white beard, like my mother says. (Susan Walker) Now wait a minute, Susie. Just because every child can’t get his wish, that doesn’t mean there isn’t a Santa Claus. (Kris Kringle)

Christmas movie quotes 2

It’s from the 1954 Technicalor musical film, White Christmas, a story about two buddies serving in the US Army and being deployed to Europe during the Second World War:

There’s no Christmas in the army! (General Thomas F Waverly) That’s very funny. Ho, ho, ho. (Phil Davis)

Christmas movie quotes 3

It’s the 1970 musical film, Scrooge, an adaptation of Charles Dickens’ 1843 classic, A Christmas Carol:

Fifteen shillings a week, a wife and five children… and he still talks of a Merry Christmas! (Ebenezer Scrooge)

”Harry, I’ve vistied you every Christmas for the past five years, and to this day I can never understand this extraordinary ritual of toasting the health of your old uncle Ebenezer. I mean, everyone knows he’s the most miserable old skinflint that ever walked God’s earth.” (Tom)

“God bless us every one!”(Tiny Tim)

Christmas movie quotes 4

It comes from 1983 comedy, A Christmas Story, a story touching on children’s emotions as a result of not getting the toy they want

Ho ho, but no matter. Christmas was on its way. Lovely, glorious, beautiful Christmas, upon which the entire kid year revolved. (Adult Ralphie) If Highbee thinks I’m working one minute past 9:00, ha can kiss my foot. Ho ho ho. (Santa Claus)

Christmas movie quotes 5

That one is 1994 fantasy-dramedy, The Santa Clause, a story about a fellow who accidentally causes the death of Santa Claus:

You believe in Santa Claus, right Dad? (Charlie) Seeing isn’t believing. Believing is seeing. (Little Elf Judy)

Christmas movie quotes 6

It’s the 1996 family comedy, Jingle All the Way, a story about two fathers who are vying hopelessly for possession of the last remaining toy available at the store:

We’re not just doing this for us. We’re doing it for the kids. For every kid who ever sat on Santa’s lap. For every little girl who left cookies and milk for Santa on Christmas night. For every little boy who opens a package Christmas morning and finds clothes instead of toys. It breaks my heart. (Mall Santa) Howard, I’m of the mind-set you can never do too much to make a child’s Christmas magical.
